A few years ago, during one of our stays in Hawaii, Toli’s friend James came for a visit and wrote the following after seeing Toli dance the hula. Rumor has it that a recorded version exists, but you know, it’s just a rumor.
Toli, Handsome Hula Dancer
- Music by ABBA (for Nina, Pretty Ballerina)
- Lyrics by James Kuffner
Every day in the morning on his way from the ranch house
You can see him as he’s driving his truck
Just a face among a million faces
Just another geek with no name.
Not the guy you’d remember but he’s still something special
If you knew him I am sure you’d agree
‘Cause I know he’s got a little secret
Friday evening he turns out to be…
Toli, handsome hula dancer
Now he is the king of the dancing floor
This is the moment he’s waited for
Just like Cinderella (just like Cinderella)
Toli, handsome hula dancer
Who would ever think he could be this way
This is the part that he likes to play
But he knows the fun would go away
If he would play it every day
So he’s back every morning working at his home-office
And another week to live in a dream
And another row of all-night codefests
In an almost never-ending stream
Doesn’t shower very often, kind of nerdy and outdated
Everybody seems to think he’s a bore
But they wouldn’t know his little secret
What his Friday night would have in store…
Toli, handsome hula dancer
Now he is the king of the dancing floor
This is the moment he’s waited for
Just like Cinderella (just like Cinderella)
Toli, handsome hula dancer
Who would ever think he could be this way
This is the part that he likes to play
He would like to play it every day
(repeat and fade…)
